“I want people to be happy and feel good at GPR.”
When Nancy talks about her role, she rarely starts with the machines. She talks about the people.
For nearly ten years at GPR, she has helped ensure that operations run smoothly on the production. But beyond production follow-ups, inspection rounds, and organizational matters, she sees her role primarily as being a resource person who supports her team every day.
“I make sure everything is running well, that employees feel in control, and that they have the tools they need to have a successful day.”
Over the years, Nancy has developed an approach based on listening, communication, and problem-solving. For her, supervision is not just about enforcing procedures or meeting production targets. It is also about understanding each person’s reality and recognizing that behind every employee is an individual with their own challenges, concerns, and needs.
“We're all human. Some days are harder than others.”
This perspective leads her to handle a wide variety of situations. Whether it is an employee going through a difficult period, a health and safety concern, a need for accommodation, a conflict that needs to be resolved, or simply someone who needs a few minutes to talk, Nancy is often one of the first people employees turn to.
One of the biggest misconceptions about supervision, in her opinion, is the idea that supervisors are there to watch over people.
“People sometimes think we're here to monitor them. But when I go see someone, it's mostly to make sure they're doing well and have what they need to do their job.”
Her approach also gave her a moment she will never forget. When she was officially informed that she would be taking over supervision of the day shift, the employees present spontaneously broke into applause.
“That's when I thought: I think I've found my place.”
What makes her proudest today are the small everyday victories—seeing an employee regain confidence, receive help at the right time, overcome a challenge, or simply finish the day with a smile.
Outside of work, Nancy has another passion: cats. In fact, she has dedicated an entire room in her home to her feline companion. She is also an avid puzzle enthusiast and enjoys challenging herself to complete 1,000-piece puzzles as quickly as possible, a hobby that helps her relax and clear her mind.
But whether she is tackling a complex puzzle or navigating an unpredictable day at the plant, her instinct remains the same: take the time to understand the situation and find a solution.
Because for Nancy, when people are doing well, everything else tends to follow.
